With Balfa Toujours, which he co-founded in 1992, Dirk has performed
in countless internatonal venues. A few examples would
be Town Hall, Lincoln Center, and The 92nd Street Y in New York
and The Barbican Centre and Royal Festival Hall in London.

Dirk performed nightly in Riverdance:The Show during its run
at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.
As a member of the successful Great High Mountain Tour in 2004,
he appeared in a wide range of venues, from 20,000 seat arenas
to large, quality theaters such as The Beacon in NY, The Lyric
Opera of Chicago, and The Fox Theater in Atlanta.
Dirk also performs in a wide variety of genres outside the Appalachian
and Cajun realms:
In the world of roots-oriented rock music, he has played electric
guitar with The Levon Helm Band and was an original member of
the group Donna the Buffalo, in which he played bass. He
has performed with Jack White of the White Stripes and the group
Ollabelle.
He has performed with blues musicians such as Sonny Landreth,
John Dee Holman, and Billy Branch. He has also played
bass with swing musicians such as Rusty Mason and Tom Mitchell.
In Irish music, Dirk has performed with many of the greats,
including Kevin Burke, Paddy Keenan, Mick Moloney, Seamus Egan,
Steve Cooney, Liz Carroll, Brendan Mulvilhill, John Doyle, Mairtin
O’Connor, Karan Casey, Niall and Cillian Vallely, etc.
Dirk has performed with numerous Creole/Zydeco greats as well,
including Bois Sec Ardoin, Keith Frank, Geno Delafose, Preston
Frank, Willis Prudhomme, etc.
